Creative Ways To Use Kaiser Buns

If you bought or made more Kaiser buns than you need for a particular recipe or special event menu, you can use them up in a number of creative ways. You'll save money by not wasting food, and you'll be able to serve up delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners as well.

Kaiser buns feature crusty exteriors and soft, airy interiors. Also sometimes referred to as Vienna rolls, these buns are made with a few simple ingredients, including yeast, egg, salt, and butter. They're also sometimes topped with sesame or poppy seeds. You can either purchase the rolls in bulk from a local grocery store or bakery or easily make them yourself.

Since Kaiser buns are hearty rolls, they're perfect for creating overstuffed sandwiches. You can fill them with a variety of unique ingredients as an alternative to boring, traditional sandwiches. If you're serving the versatile rolls at a special event or party, they're sure to please everyone on your guest list.

The following are some ways that you can use Kaiser buns in unexpected ways.

1. Breakfast Sandwiches

While sandwiches are more commonly served as lunch fare, they make filling, satisfying breakfasts as well. Since they're easy to eat on the go, they're ideal for busy weekday mornings. You can make the sandwiches the night before, wrap them in foil, and enjoy them on the way to work or school.

Fill the crusty rolls with any type of breakfast food you desire, including scrambled or sunny-side-up eggs, bacon or sausage, and cheese. For a healthy twist, include sliced tomatoes or red onions as well. As a gourmet touch, add a dollop or two of homemade hollandaise sauce.

2. Garlic Bread

Transform halved Kaiser buns into delicious, individually sized pieces of garlic bread that your family or guests can enjoy with spaghetti or lasagna. Simply spread butter over the rolls and then sprinkle with garlic salt and dried parsley flakes. You can also add shredded mozzarella or grated Parmesan cheese.

If you prefer a stronger flavor, use finely chopped garlic in place of the garlic salt. Bake the rolls until the cheese melts and the crusts are crunchy.

3. Tuna Melts

If you're looking for a casual lunch or dinner meal, make your favorite tuna salad recipe and spread it onto halved Kaiser rolls. Top with the sliced cheese of your choice, such as cheddar or Swiss, and wrap the rolls in foil.

Bake the sandwiches until the cheese is melted, and serve alongside potato chips or potato salad and pickles.
